I have been a licenced amateur radio (ham radio) operator since 1991 when I was 13 years old. My grandmother and my dad were both ham radio operators as well. My activity in amateur radio waxes and wanes from year to year, but when I am active on the air my interests are mainly in HF (High Frequency, a.k.a. shortwave) communications, primarily using Morse Code (known as "CW" for Continuous Wave) or voice ("SSB" for Single Sideband), mainly on the 20 Meters and 40 Meters amateur bands. I have also dabbled in newer digital modes of communication such as PSK31, and I have built several QRP (low power) HF transceivers over the years as well.
